Prawn Balchao (Spicy Pickled Prawns)


250 gm prawns
100 ml oil
25 gm garlic
100 gm onions
05 gm turmeric
02 gm curry leaves
salt to taste
200 ml Fenni


10 gm cumin seeds
10 gm peppercorns
100 gm red chillies
200 ml coconut vinegar
50 gm small dried shrimps
25 gm ginger
75 gm garlic


Chop the onions and the garlic. Grind all the ingredients for the paste with the vinegar.

Shell and clean the prawns.

Heat oil and add the chopped garlic. When the garlic is golden brown add the chopped onions and saut?.

Add the curry leaves and the paste and mix thoroughly and saut? for 10 minutes. Keep adding coconut vinegar if the mixture becomes dry.

Mix in the prawns and cook for another 15 minutes. Finish by pouring in the Fenni.
