{"id":2456,"date":"2011-07-17T11:35:44","date_gmt":"2011-07-17T06:05:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mynation.net\/docs\/?p=2456"},"modified":"2011-07-17T11:35:44","modified_gmt":"2011-07-17T06:05:44","slug":"regulation-of-employment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mynation.net\/docs\/regulation-of-employment\/","title":{"rendered":"Amendment of the Inter-State Migrant Workmen (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 1979"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n\t<span class=\"apple-style-span\"><span>The Union Cabinet today gave its approval to amend the title of the Inter-State Migrant Workmen (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 1979 to \u2018Inter State Migrant Workers (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 1979\u2019 by introducing a Bill, namely the Inter-State Migrant Workmen (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Amendment Bill, 2011 (Appendix-III) (page 6 to 7) in the ensuing session of Parliament.<\/span><\/span><span class=\"apple-converted-space\"><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n\t<br \/><!--[if !supportLineBreakNewLine]--><br \/><!--[endif]--><span class=\"apple-style-span\"><\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n\t<span class=\"apple-style-span\"><span>The Act provides for regulating the employment of inter-state migrant workmen and their conditions of service.<\/span><\/span><span class=\"apple-converted-space\"><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span><\/p>\n<p><!--[if !supportLineBreakNewLine]--><br \/><!--[endif]--><span class=\"apple-style-span\"><\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n\t<span class=\"apple-style-span\"><span>The Act will become gender neutral by amending its title and replacing the word \u2018workman and workmen\u2019 by the words \u2018worker and workers\u2019 respectively.<\/span><\/span><span class=\"apple-converted-space\"><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span><\/p>\n<p><!--[if !supportLineBreakNewLine]--><br \/><!--[endif]--><span class=\"apple-style-span\"><\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n\t<span class=\"apple-style-span\"><span>Background:<\/span><\/span><span class=\"apple-converted-space\"><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\n\t<span class=\"apple-style-span\">The system of employment of inter-state migrant labour is an exploitative one. To safeguard the interests of migrant workers, the Government enacted the Inter-State Migrant Workmen (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 1979. The Task Force constituted for amendment of labour laws concerning women and children, recommended that the title of the Act may be changed in order to make it gender neutral.
