The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act,1960

AN ACT To prevent the infliction of unnecessary pain or suffering on animals and for that purpose to amend the law relating to the prevention of cruelty to animals. Be it enacted by Parliament in the Eleventh Year of the Republic of India as follows: –
Section 1. Short title, extent and commencement
(1) This Act may be called the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act,1960.
(2) It extends to the whole of India except the State of Jammu and Kashmir.
(3) It shall come into force on such date as the Central Government may, by notification in the official Gazette, appoint, and different dates may be appointed for different States and for the different provisions contained in this Act.1
