Edward VII 6d Pale Dull Purple I.R. Official

One Edward VII 6d Pale Dull Purple I.R. Official stamp, which was withdrawn almost as soon as it was issued in 1904, sold for £400,000 in 2010.

Only a limited number of the stamp were ever printed, so it’s about as scarce as it gets.

Vince Cordell of Stanley Gibbons said the stamp is a “great departmental rarity”.

The Jersey-based stamp dealer Stanley Gibbons has sold one of Britain’s rarest stamps, and one of the most sought-after in the world, for £400,000. The 1904 Edward VII 6d Pale Dull Purple (aka the IR Official) was withdrawn almost immediately after it was issued on March 14, 1904
