I was using Microsoft Office 2013, because of some Technical reason I uninstalled it and tried to reinstall it again.
Before that I wanted to see how Microsoft Office 2016 is, so I installed it, as I was not having license it aborted after 90% install.
Then I tried to install Microsoft Office 2010, Failed i tried to install Microsoft Office 2013 but I got
Error 1920. Service ‘Office Software Protection Platform’ (osppsvc) failed to start’
A).I tried to start osppsvc manually after running services.msc from command prompt.
But I got this message.
Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified
File path to OSPPSVC.exe is “C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OfficeSoftwareProtectionPlatform\OSPPSVC.EXE
As the message there was no such file in above said directory. I checked on other system where Microsoft Office 2010 was installed and copied all files from that directory, Even after file copied when I tried to start I was getting same error.
Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified
When I google for the solution I found many answers, even from Microsoft experts for the problem but none solved my problem.
When install stops it was giving this Technical Error
Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: OfficeClassicSetup

SETUP DLL NAME: OSETUP.DLL
SETUP DLL VERSION: 15.0.4420.1017

I even tried to install Office 2010 and I get the exact same issue.
B).Some said run CMD in administrator mode and run
sfc /scannow
C).Some said disable Firewall / Antivirus programs and run Microsoft setup as an Administrator.
D).I have tried changing the Log-On as for the service to be my account or Local System Account but it does not work.
E).then i tried
Changing ‘This account’ to ‘Local system account’ is useless, because after the error described above, the system somehow reverts the log on selection for Office Software Protection Platform back to ‘This account,’ with ‘Network service’ selected by default.
The better solution is to give the user account called ‘Network service’ full permissions for the appropriate folders and registry entries. Simply follow these instructions
In Windows Explorer:
Right Click on the folder OfficeSoftwareProtection Platform from C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared and Microsoft from C:Program data(hidden folder) Properties > Security > Edit > Add > Type Network Service > OK > Check the Full control box > Apply and OK.
F).In Registry Editor (regedit.exe):
Go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AppID registry >Right Click on the folder > Permissions > Add > Type NETWORK SERVICE > OK > Check Full Control > Apply > OK
G).I have tried creating new user as Administrator and install, still I faced same issue.
H).Followed the steps to repair registry as below:
Step 1. Bring up Registry Editor by typing regedit in the search bar and hit Enter
Step 2. Delete the preinstalled or older registry key which block the installation of latest version or update.
Step 3. Navigate the below keys and delete it.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0
Step 4. Also change the DWORD values in below keys from 0 to 1 in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\common registry folder.
I).In Services, make sure OSPPSVC is not disabled. Run CMD, enter: sc config “osppsvc” start=demand, also change start mode for osppsvc service to AUTOMATIC and rebooted the system.
J).Next I did this
Press and hold the Windows key together with the letter ‘R’. run cleanmgr and did cleaning.
Press and hold the Windows key together with the letter ‘R’.
When the Run window opens, enter the command “temp”, without quotes, and hit Enter key.
Now, you will have Explorer Window with the temporary system files location open.
Select any file or folder in the open Window and then press and hold the ‘CTRL’ and alphabet ‘A’ at once.
Microsoft Run Command Dialog For Temp
Now, right click the selected files.
While holding down the ‘Shift’ key, select the option “Delete” from the pop up menu.
K).Cleared all Browser cache and also C\Windows\temp\ Directory
ALL ABOVE STEPS I DID TO FIX THE ISSUE. But failed
How to Fix Error Code 1920
Microsoft Office error code 1920 can occur while closing, downloading, installing, opening (launching), updating or while performing any actions like copying, pasting, sending, receiving etc
SOLVED – SOLUTION
You can try all of the obove points and try to install else
Remove entries from Registry as above of all earlier failed install entries
Clear TMP directories and Microsoft Office related directories under C:\Program Files\ and C:\Program Files\Common Files\ or there is VBS file avaialble on internet to force to delete earlier all leftover of Microsoft Office
Then
Bring up Registry Editor by typing regedit in the search bar and hit Enter
or
Open your registry editor(Win+R and then type “regedit” and hit enter).
Then go to this location “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options“.
Under this folder there will be another folder called “osppsvc.exe”. This is what is blocking your “osppsvc.exe” file from executing.
Just delete this folder (“HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options“.)
Start installing Microsoft Office 20XX

Press and hold the Windows key together with the letter ‘R’.
Drop this into a command prompt that you are running as an administrator:
